Much to my surprise, via online poll you all expressed an overwhelming dislike for them (or at least you preferred my old glasses by a sizable margin).
Well I have good news for you 'haters;' they broke. My "nearly indestructible" clear plastic frames cracked while I was jumping off rocks into the Potomac on a float trip in mid-August.After wrangling with my glasses company they agreed to order me a new pair, only to realize they no longer stocked my frames (they sold them all).So after further wrangling, they agreed to sell me a new pair for $58.16.The new frames are cool, but definitely different from the old - C calls them modern but classic. You can make up your own mind.
Ever wonder what happens when a politically concerned entrepreneurial spirit meets another politically concerned entrepreneurial spirit? Well, I found out yesterday that the world will not explode...they briefly discuss smoking bans.
Yesterday, NYC Mayor Bloomberg came to G-town to speak for a forum sponsored by the public policy school. When the policy school sponsors events, they really treat their students right; we had reserved seating in rows 3-8 of the big auditorium and were invited to an exclusive post-party that featured Bloomberg (D.C. Mayor Fenty showed up later too). Here are some pics from the event.

If you Look closely...a buddy giving bunny ears.
Not mature, but he really wanted to for some reason.
For those playing at home, I just finished my fourth week of school - it's been great, it's been exciting and it's been busy. And the job prospecting is already well underway.
This past Thursday and Friday as many as 20,000 MBAs converged on Washington, DC to attend the National Black MBA Asso's annual conference and career (it's not just for minorities). If you've ever wondered what that many MBA's huddled around 300+ recruiters' tables looked like, I enclosed a picture below.
This was the line for registration.
It actually wasn't as crowded as I expected, but everyone was wearing suits (just a different kind). It was a great opportunity to make several contacts with key companies and to drop my resume off at interesting firms, some of which do not recruit on campus. Oddly enough, the recruiting staff for Lehman Bros did not show up at the event, but both Merrill Lynch and JPMorgan/Chase were there (their booths were not close by each other). And the booth for AIG ironically boasted it's now infamous slogan, "The Strength to Be There." From what I saw, the most crowded booths were Target, Disney/ESPN, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Deloitte consulting (along with others). I guess MBA's like stable companies.
In our 12.25 years of post-High School education, neither C nor I ever received athletic scholarships (no surprises) and it would have been/be a large stretch to refer to us as "student athletes." Yet, last Saturday C & M, outfitted in high-tech Lululemon gear, proved our smarts and athletic abilities by finishing 3rd out of 75 teams in the High Trek Adventure DC competition.
The HTA-DC was essentially a one-day Amazing Race competition, where C & I received clues and then ran all over DC. As we answered each question/riddle/challenge, we had to take a picture of us in the act of doing so (see below). When the day was over and our thighs hurt from power walking/jogging 4.75 miles, we finished the competition in only 1 hour & 51 minutes. What excited us most was that the only two teams we lost to were heavy duty runners (a team of former Univ of Texas cross country stars who finished in 1:17 & a team from sponsored by a running store, 1:37). We did however, beat last year's race champions (they finished 6th - nearly 1/2 hour behind us) - shazam!
Wondering what some of the questions were? We tried to format the 10 questions into an online quiz - keep in mind we got to skip one, so don't feel bad about only getting 9 out of 10 correct.
