All Around Maryland

By C

M and I in Baltimore

It was another fun filled weekend for the Virginia H's, although we spent most of it in Maryland.  No, we were not at my school.  Saturday we spent the day with Shai and Shelby, who were visiting Shelby's parents in Baltimore for the weekend.  We had a blast and since I had missed my school field trip to Baltimore 2 weeks ago (see 2 and 3 entries ago), this made up for it; a little.  We visited the Inner HarborOpen in a new window and Fell's PointOpen in a new window in downtown Baltimore, sat and watched the paddle boaters and did some excellent people watching.  It is always so nice to visit with friends and see new places and to top it off, the weather was perfect.

Here we are looking at the Baltimore Aquarium and looking the Domino Sugar Factory

Today, marked my final Cubs Club performance for the year at the Frederick Key'sOpen in a new window game in none other than Frederick, MD.  There was some slight confusion as to what time all of our dancers would perform and it turns out that it was earlier than we all expected, therefore we were missing a lot of our dancers!  When it was time for the kindercubs to dance, we only had one kindergartner that had no desire to go and dance by herself; I don't blame her.  Just as all of the dancing finished and the game was getting ready to begin we had another kindercub show up; at this point it was too late.  One mom was totally flexible and fine and the other was a bit pissed (the one that was late was the pissed one, can you imagine that).  So after talking to the teacher that is in charge of all of the Cubs Club dancers, she was able to get us a time slot at the bottom of the 4th to dance, by the time we were ready to go on the field, we had 3 out of our 13 girls.  There were quite a few no shows obviously and the cause was probably the gray and chilly weather.  But, my 3 little dancers did great all by themselves, all the moms left happy and M left happy because he got a picture of me on the field!  We were pooped from the dancing and cold by the time we got home and fell asleep on the couches.  After a fun weekend we are ready to go back to work and school (maybe), I am just in desperate need of a spring break...I am almost there!

Nit Free!

By C

So, for those of you that are unfamiliar with nits, let me have the pleasure of familiarizing you.  Nits are the product of louse.  In case you are still unsure about nits and louse, maybe you are more familiar with the plural of louse, lice.  Yes, that is right, I did say lice.  There is a lice epidemic at my school for the 2nd time this year and this time the unwanted critters came to my classroom...but thankfully not my head (stapes were enough)!  It did unfortunately strike 5 of my students!  Oy!  I am taking the extra precautions and preventative by washing my head with Dessert Essence Therapeutic Treatment Shampoo and ConditionerOpen in a new window, I basically smell like tea tree oil right now...could be worse though!  I have also bagged up the pillows in my classroom (that apparently suffocates and kills them) and tomorrow we will be scrubbing the desks and chairs.  The girls in my classroom and I (along with the boys with longer hair) will be wearing our hair in ponytails on top of our heads the rest of the week...maybe even the rest of the year!  Ponytails and braids apparently make it harder for the lice to cling to your hair, therefore ponytails it is!  Thank goodness Spring Break starts Wednesday!  Let's put an end to these nasty louse once and for all.  Is your scalp itching now thinking about them?

It's Ok to Share

Share a toy, share a slide

Share the feelings deep inside,

But never share a hat or comb,

Or lice could make you head their home.

Back to Reality

By C

F, C and B                                                             C II, B, C, J and F

I was more than ready for Spring Break and was practically counting the days down until it arrived and now it is nearly time to go back to work...please say it isn't so!  Actually though, it will be okay because I know that the rest of the year is going to fly by!

I spent the first part of my vacation in Chicago where I got to spend Q.T. with my cuz F.  I got to see her amazing photos (I can not believe she is graduating so soon) and I got to watch her perform backup for her friends senior concert, which judging from the rehearsal was going to be stellar.  We were joined by both of our fams later in the evening where we shopped, feasted and had some drinks.  We celebrated our cousin B's wedding shower (the main reason why we were all in Chi-town) the following day and then Aunt S hosted a 44 person Passover Seder in her clubhouse.  A good time was had by all and I also found out that there are gluten free oat matzosOpen in a new window out there and they actually are not half bad; I will have to purchase a box next year!  Although oats are normally considered glutenous, apparently oatmeal when cleansed a certain way is gluten free.  Who knows, it is all a mystery.  Last time I ate oatmeal it was not good, but these certified gluten free oat matzos were just fine!  I had a fun road trip back to the Lou with my mom and dad and note to self and anyone else who enjoys Swedish Fish - do not eat the fake ones...they are absolutely atrocious!

No, I did not eat Swedish Fish sushi, but when looking for a picture of them I stumbled upon this and had to post it!  The top ones are made with Twinkies....ew!

My week was filled with spending time with family and friends.  My amazing mom took time off nearly every day to spend with me, I had lunch and visited with the H's, and lunch with my dad and mom where we ran into cousins that I wanted to see, but did not have time...it was bashertOpen in a new window.  I went out for drinks with my lil sis and cousin where we had a waiter that was too hungover to pour our wine, he was shaky he said.  Weird!  My girlfriends and I managed to squeeze in a book club and a dinner, and I got to meet my friend M's baby J and see S and her baby Tz who will soon be a big sister!

The week flew by, but it feels great to be back home and with M.  The flight in was beautiful, I must have fallen asleep for a bit, but woke to see G-town and our apartment building out of the window.  We had to circle for a bit, so I followed all of the landmarks down through Arlington, DC, Alexandria and even saw beautiful Mount Vernon from the sky - that was very cool!  One more day off and then it is back to reality.

There are pictures uploaded on our site, but there are also pics from the week from my mom on OfotoOpen in a new window.  Enjoy!

Interview with a Liberian Ambassador (Part II)

By M
undefined

Some of our faithful readers may remember that way back in January I, along with a schoolmate, interviewed the Liberian Ambassador.  At the time, I promised not to publish the interview on the blogity until the Georgetown Public Policy Review went into print…Well last week was the official release so I’ve attached the interview via word documentOpen in a new window.   I was hoping they would post a copy of the Review on the websiteOpen in a new window, but that appears doubtful.

Anyway, enjoy.  Wish me luck as I study for finals.
